If Windows 11 shows Memory integrity is off and turning it on does nothing, the usual cause is an incompatible driver.
Try this in order:
- Open Windows Security.
- Go to Device security.
- Under Core isolation, select Core isolation details.
- Turn Memory integrity On.
If it switches back off or shows a driver problem:
- Check Windows Update for updated drivers.
- Check the device manufacturer for a newer compatible driver.
- If no updated driver is available, remove the device or app that uses that incompatible driver.
Important points:
- Memory integrity is also called Hypervisor-protected Code Integrity (HVCI).
- It requires hardware virtualization to be enabled in the system UEFI/BIOS.
- On Windows 11 22H2 and later, Windows Security can show a warning when memory integrity is off.
If a specific driver cannot load and the device is needed, Windows provides a workaround:
- Open Windows Security > Device security > Core isolation details.
- Turn Memory integrity Off.
- Restart the PC.
Warning: turning off Memory integrity reduces protection. On a Secured-core PC, it also takes the device out of a Secured-core state.
If the scan shows no details for the incompatible driver, only the driver name and company name shown in the notification are considered reliable. In that case, the next step is still to update or remove the related device/app from its manufacturer.
If Memory integrity still cannot be enabled after updating or removing incompatible drivers, an in-place upgrade can refresh Windows files without removing files or apps. Back up important data first before making large system changes.
