Teams Meeting: Why is the camera zoomed in when no background filters are active?

When using teams, if I select "None" for my background filter, my camera will be significantly zoomed in / cropped. When checking in the camera app simultaneously, the zoom level looks normal and if I select a background filter, the zoom level looks normal. Is this an intended feature?

If your camera looks too zoomed in, you can fix it easily:

    Open your Windows Settings.

Go to Bluetooth & devices, then click on Cameras.

Select your camera and turn off Automatic framing or any zoom effects.

Try that out and let me know if it helps.

    Hi aphorvat,

Thank you for sharing the details of your concern.

Selecting None under background effects would not normally be expected to significantly zoom in or crop the camera image. Since the camera view appears normal in the Camera app and returns to normal when a background effect is selected, the behavior may be related to automatic framing, camera enhancements, the camera driver, or how the Teams desktop app is processing the video feed.

Here are some steps you can try:

    1. Open Windows Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras, select the camera, and temporarily turn off Automatic framing and any other camera effects or enhancements.
    2. User's image
    3. If you are using an external webcam, check its manufacturer’s software and disable options such as auto-framing, face tracking, or auto zoom.
    4. In Teams, go to Settings > Devices, confirm that the correct camera is selected, and check whether any camera controls or enhancements are enabled.
    5. User's image
    6. Test the camera in Teams on the web at https://teams.microsoft.com/v2/. This will help determine whether the behavior is limited to the Teams desktop app.
    7. Update Teams, Windows, and the camera driver.
    8. If the issue continues, try repairing or resetting Teams from Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Teams > Advanced options.

For reference, you may find these articles helpful:

If the issue persists, let me know:

    • Whether you are using Windows or macOS
    • Whether the camera is built-in or external
    • Whether automatic framing is enabled
    • Whether the same behavior occurs in Teams on the web

Please feel free to share the information in the comment below. Once I have it, I'll be better positioned to guide you through the next steps.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
