This usually indicates a device sync or server-side issue rather than a problem with the old device itself.
Try this path:
- Go back to the Microsoft account Devices page and try removing the device again from there.
- If the device is already offline or no longer accessible, wait a few days and try again. Accepted Microsoft Q&A guidance indicates device management servers may not have finished syncing yet.
- If the device still appears, sign out of Microsoft account sessions under account security settings, then retry the removal.
- If the device is a personal Windows PC you no longer use, remove it from the Microsoft account Devices page:

- Select Remove device
- Confirm by checking the box and selecting Remove

- If the goal is only to free Microsoft Store device slots, unlink it instead:

Important limits and conditions:
- It can take up to 24 hours for a registered device to appear on the list.
- A device may already be attached to another account.
- A company- or organization-managed PC cannot be registered to a personal Microsoft account.
- macOS and mobile devices cannot currently be added to the Microsoft account devices list.
