    1

If the power options on the start menu are not available, if you right click your Start button, are those options available on the right click menu in the Shut Down or Sign Out section.

    2

If not, on your Desktop press Alt + F4, does that bring up the shut down dialog and are you able to use that menu to shut down or restart your PC.

    3

If neither of those options work, have you installed a browser named the Respondus Lockdown Browser to take an online exam?

    4

Click your Start Button, type regedit and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.

Click View and make sure 'Address Bar' is turned on.

Paste this into the Address Bar at the top and hit Enter.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Please provide a screenshot of that Registry Editor page.

If Windows shows “There are currently no power options available”, the supported fixes in the provided guidance are:

    1. Open Control Panel and switch to Icons view.
    2. Go to Power Options.
    3. Select Choose what the power buttons do.
    4. Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
    5. Under Shutdown settings, make sure the power options such as Sleep or Hibernate are enabled if available, then save changes.

If the power menu items are still missing, a policy may be hiding them:

    • Windows has a policy named Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands.
    • When enabled, it removes Shut down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate from the Start menu, and also removes the Power button from the Windows Security and sign-in/logon screens.
    • If that policy is disabled or not configured, those power options are available.

For managed devices, the same behavior can also be controlled through policy settings such as:

    • HidePowerOptions
    • HidePowerButton
    • HideSleep
    • HideShutDown
    • HideRestart
    • HideHibernate

If the issue started around sleep/shutdown problems, another supported step is to turn off Fast startup:

    1. Open Control Panel > Power Options.
    2. Select Choose what the power buttons do.
    3. Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
    4. Clear Turn on fast startup.
    5. Save changes.
    6. Restart the PC, then check the power button again.
