Windows startup sound and lock screen

2026-09-30T06:19:45.31+00:00

First problem: after reinstalling Windows, the startup sound plays while I'm still on the lock screen—before I've even entered my password—and I really don't want to have to listen to that.

A second issue: for some reason, when starting Windows now, it first shows the lock screen with the time, and only after pressing Enter does it show the PIN entry field; whereas before reinstalling Windows, it would go straight to the PIN entry field upon startup, and the Windows sound would only play after entering the PIN and Windows had loaded.

Pls help me :(

There is no setting in Windows to get your PC to boot to the Login screen, the method to do that requires you to edit the registry.

    Please follow these steps carefully.

Click your Start Button, type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor

Paste this into the Address Bar at the top of the registry editor and press Enter.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

Right click the Windows Key (folder) in the left pane and choose New - Key

    Name the key Personalization

    Click the new Personalization key

In the right hand pane, right click and choose New - DWORD 32bit

    Name it NoLockScreen

Double click NoLockScreen and set its value to 1

Close the Registry Editor and restart (not shut down) Windows for the change to take effect.
