System Restore does not restore by an exact time such as “48 hours ago.” It restores Windows to an available restore point created around that time. Select the restore point closest to 48 hours ago.
If Windows still starts:
- Open System Restore:
- Open Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore, or
- Press Windows + R, type
rstrui.exe, and press Enter.
- In Restore system files and settings, select Next.
- In the list, select the restore point closest to 48 hours ago.
- If the needed restore point is not visible, select Show more restore points.
- Optional: select Scan for affected programs to see which apps and drivers will be removed or affected.
- Select Next > Finish.
- Windows restarts automatically after the restore point is applied.
If Windows does not start:
- Enter the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
- Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
- If the device is encrypted, enter the BitLocker recovery key when prompted.
- Select the restore point closest to 48 hours ago.
- If needed, select Show more restore points.
- Optional: select Scan for affected programs.
- Select Next > Finish.
- After the restore point is applied, select Restart.
Important:
- System Restore reverts system files, registry settings, and installed programs to the selected restore point.
- It does not affect personal files.
- Recently installed apps and drivers might be removed.
- If BitLocker is enabled, the recovery key is required in WinRE.
