If the BitLocker recovery page is stuck at sign-in or verification codes arrive too late to use, the supported steps are:
- Open the recovery key page in an InPrivate or Incognito browser window and try again.
- If a VPN is enabled, temporarily disable it and retry.
- Try a different network, such as a mobile hotspot, and then open the recovery key page again.
- If the verification prompt shows phone or email details that are unfamiliar, first confirm the Microsoft account is correct, including the full domain such as
.comor.co.uk, and check for spelling differences in the account name. - If access to the listed verification methods is no longer available, select I don't have any of these during sign-in and follow the prompts to recover the account.
- If the recovery key page still does not load correctly after that, this can be a server-side issue. In that case, retry later.

- The BitLocker recovery key is a 48-digit number.
- Microsoft Support cannot retrieve, provide, or recreate a lost BitLocker recovery key.
- For a personal device, the key is typically attached to the Microsoft account used when BitLocker or Device Encryption was activated.
- For a work or school device, the key is typically managed by the organization.
If this is a work or school device, the recovery key may be available through the Company Portal website:
- Sign in to the Company Portal website.
- Go to Devices.
- Select the locked PC.
- Select Get recovery key.
- Select Show recovery key.
