The screenshot shows that no restore points exist on the system drive, so System Restore cannot restore the PC to an earlier date.
What this means:
- System Protection is turned on, but that alone does not guarantee that a restore point already exists.
- System Restore can only use restore points that were created earlier, either automatically or manually.
What to do:
- Open System Restore again.
- Check whether Show more restore points appears and select it if available.
- If no restore points appear, there is no earlier point available to restore to.
- Create a restore point now for future recovery:
- Open System Protection
- Select the system drive
- Choose Create
- If Windows is having problems and still starts, System Restore can only help if a valid restore point exists.
- If Windows does not start, boot into Windows Recovery Environment and go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore. If there are still no restore points there, System Restore cannot be used for this issue.
Important:
- System Restore does not affect personal files.
- It can remove recently installed apps and drivers.
- If the device is encrypted, the BitLocker recovery key may be required in Windows RE.
