To upgrade a Windows 7 laptop to Windows 10:
- Update Windows 7 first.
- Open Control Panel.
- Search for Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates and install the latest updates.
- Create Windows 10 installation media on a USB flash drive.
- Follow the instructions in Create installation media for Windows.
- Insert the Windows 10 USB drive into the Dell Latitude E6530.
- From Windows 7, start the upgrade.
- If a pop-up appears, select Run setup.exe.
- If it does not appear:
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Select Computer.
- Under Devices with Removable Storage, right-click the Windows 10 installation media.
- Select Install or run program from your media.
- If User Account Control appears, select Yes. If prompted, enter an administrator account name and password.
- In Windows 10 Setup, continue until the Product key page, enter the Windows 10 product key, and complete the wizard.
If the laptop cannot start Windows 7 normally, a clean install from USB is another option:
- Create bootable Windows installation media on a USB drive.
- Insert the USB drive and restart the PC.
- During startup, press the BIOS or boot menu key such as F2, F12, or DEL.
- Set or choose the USB drive as the boot device.
- Follow Windows Setup to install Windows.
Note: A clean install can remove existing files, so back up important data first.
