Try these supported checks and fixes for missing or broken Sleep on Windows:
- Check whether hibernation is disabled.
Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:
This can restore hibernation and hybrid sleep support when the hibernation file was disabled.powercfg -h on - Verify which sleep states are available.
In the same elevated Command Prompt, run:
This shows which sleep states Windows currently supports.powercfg /a - Make sure Hibernate is enabled in Power Options. Go to: Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable Then, under Shutdown settings, enable Hibernate and save changes.
- If the issue started right after an update on a preview build, install the available Windows Update for the known sleep/resume issue. A documented case exists where systems using the StorAHCI driver on non-hybrid SATA disks could not resume from sleep until an update was installed.
- If Sleep is still missing, collect system details.
One documented troubleshooting path is to run msinfo32 from Run and review the System Summary. Another is to post the output of
powercfg /afor the available sleep states.
Important: if hibernation was disabled, sleep-related features may not save open work correctly during power loss until hibernation is re-enabled.
- I used the Disk Cleanup Tool in Windows Vista, and now the hybrid sleep feature and the hibernation feature are unavailable
- Shut down, sleep, or hibernate your PC
- No Sleep Option in Settings or Control Panel. My Laptop Doesn't Sleep. - Microsoft Q&A
- Sleep Option has disappeared and other suggestions for restoring it do not work - Microsoft Q&A Yesterday, the "sleep" option disappeared from my power options. When I go into control panel--hardware and sound--power options--system settings to define power buttons/change what the power buttons do, the only options are shut down, hibernate, turn off the display, or do nothing. Sleep is not an option on this menu or in the regular settings menu where you decide what you want your power settings to be. As of two days ago, I could hit the windows button the machine and then select sleep to put the computer to sleep. Now, that option is gone with seemingly no way to restore it. I am on a desktop, so there is no physical sleep button I can push.
- Windows 10 Technical Preview or Windows Server Technical Preview cannot resume from sleep or cannot start
