Additional sign-in or account-related issues within Microsoft Teams for business
This usually means the account is using Microsoft Authenticator number matching. The app shows a 2-digit number, and that number must be entered only when the sign-in prompt asks for it.
Try this:
- Make sure the account is a work account and not a personal Teams account.
- If Teams shows only items like Activity, Community, Chat, and Calendar, or work content is missing, sign in with the work or school account instead.
- Start the sign-in again in Teams.
- On desktop: open Microsoft Teams from Start on Windows or Applications on Mac.
- On web: open https://teams.microsoft.com/.
- Sign in with the Microsoft 365 work username and password.
- Wait for the full verification prompt.
- Depending on organization settings, an extra verification step may appear.
- The number shown in Microsoft Authenticator is only used when the sign-in screen asks for it.
- If the prompt never appears, or Authenticator keeps showing numbers with nowhere to enter them:
- Contact the workplace IT admin.
- Ask them to check or reset the Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication registration for the account and allow the device to be re-registered.
- This is the recommended fix for business/work accounts when verification is stuck.
- If Teams signs in to the wrong account, switch to the work account.
- Being signed in with a personal Microsoft account can prevent access to workplace Teams features.
If Teams shows a status code in the lower-left corner of the sign-in window, send that code to the IT admin. In many sign-in cases, only the IT admin or sysadmin can resolve the issue.
