Cant add my IMAP Email address

New Outlook will not connect to an Afrihost IMAP mailbox

We are having an issue adding the following third-party IMAP mailbox to New Outlook:

The mailbox has been working normally in this Outlook installation for approximately three months and suddenly stopped working on 21 September 2026.

The mailbox itself is working correctly. We have successfully logged into the Afrihost Webmail portal using the same email address and current password. This confirms that the mailbox exists, is accessible, and that the credentials are valid.

We have also successfully changed the mailbox password through Afrihost.

The problem occurs specifically in New Outlook.

The original Outlook error was:

SmtpSubmissionPermanentSxException: Smtp submission failed. Server 'mail.northridinggardens.co.za' Port '465' ... Expected: 235, actual: 535 ... Incorrect authentication data.

We subsequently removed the account from New Outlook and attempted to add it again manually using IMAP.

Correct Afrihost settings:

IMAP server: mail.northridinggardens.co.za

IMAP port: 993

IMAP security: SSL/TLS

SMTP server: mail.northridinggardens.co.za

SMTP port: 465

SMTP security: SSL/TLS

Username: full email address

New Outlook still fails to add the account. During the process it also displays:

"Your email looks like a shared mailbox..."

This is not a Microsoft 365 Exchange shared mailbox. It is a normal Afrihost-hosted IMAP mailbox.

Other email accounts in the same Outlook installation continue to work normally.

We therefore need assistance determining why New Outlook is failing to authenticate/configure this particular third-party IMAP account when the same credentials successfully authenticate through Afrihost Webmail.

Please investigate whether New Outlook is incorrectly detecting the account type, retaining incorrect account/authentication information, or has another issue preventing this IMAP account from being added.
