Managing sound and video settings during Teams meetings and calls for optimal communication
Try this in order:
- In the Teams meeting or call window, select the dropdown arrow next to Mic.
- Select More actions > Audio settings.
- Under Speaker, make sure the correct output device is selected and not muted.
If the speaker device does not appear in Teams:
- For a wired device, unplug it and plug it back in.
- For a Bluetooth speaker or headset, make sure it is charged and not connected to another device, then reconnect it.
Also check Windows sound output:
- Open Start and search for Sound settings.
- Go to System > Sound.
- Under Choose where to play sound, select the correct speaker.
- Next to Volume, make sure it is not muted.
- If the speaker is missing, select Add device to pair it.
Before a meeting, Teams settings can also be checked here:
- In Teams, select Settings and more > Settings.
- Select Devices.
- Under Audio > Audio settings, confirm the correct Speaker is selected.
- Select Make a test call to test audio settings.
If audio is still very low, one reported fix was changing the microphone input so the mic and listening speaker were not assigned to the same speaker device.
If using Remote Desktop on Windows, check this too:
- Open Remote Desktop Connection.
- Open the Local Resources tab.
- Under Remote audio, select Settings....
- Set Remote audio playback to Play on this computer.
- Set Remote audio recording to Record from this computer.
For best performance, make sure Teams and Windows or macOS are fully updated.
