Cannot delete contacts (signed as external)

Hello,

I am facing a persistent issue with my personal Outlook.com account. I have several corrupted contacts appearing in my Outlook on the Web (OWA) contact list. These contacts are automatically marked as "External".

When I select them and click the "Delete" button, the system fails and gives me the following error message: "Couldn't delete contacts".

Here is what I have already tried to troubleshoot the issue, without success:

  1. Clear browser cache/cookies and tried using Incognito/InPrivate mode.
  2. Turned off and cleared data for "People Suggestions" in my Microsoft Account Privacy settings.
  3. Tried deleting them using bulk selection.

These corrupted entries only appear on the Web version of Outlook. It seems to be a server-side database corruption/sync lock. Please look into my backend mailbox data and perform a force-delete or reset on these specific corrupted contact entries.

Thank you.

I will answer you in English based on your previous message. As a friendly suggestion, posting in Greek may help your question reach a wider audience and increase the chances of receiving assistance from other community members

    Hi @GIANNIS VALATSOS

As a workaround, check whether the affected contacts appear under People in classic Outlook or Outlook Mobile and try deleting them there. If you previously enabled contact syncing in Teams Mobile, also turn off Sync my device contacts under Settings > People.

If the contacts appear only in Outlook.com and are not visible in the other Outlook apps, there does not appear to be another user-side workaround. In that situation, please contact Microsoft Support and ask them to investigate the affected contact records.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators and contributors cannot access accounts or Microsoft’s back-end systems. We can only provide technical guidance on reported incidents, requests and ideas

Thank you for your time and understanding
