Outlook.com contacts not updating in recipient picker / autocomplete

Hello,

I am using a free Outlook.com account.

New contacts are saved successfully and are visible in People / Contacts, but they do not appear in the recipient picker when I click To / Cc / Bcc.

Older contacts appear normally, but newly created contacts do not.

Recipient autocomplete also does not return any suggestions while typing.

The same issue happens in both Outlook on the web and New Outlook for Windows.

The Default Global Address List also fails to load.

I have already:

reinstalled New Outlook

signed out and signed back in

enabled enhanced contact suggestions

created a new test contact

The new contact is clearly visible in People, but it is missing from the recipient picker.

It appears that the contact / recipient index for this Outlook.com account is not updating correctly.

    Hi Maria Fos,

Thank you for the detailed information.

Since the contacts are being saved successfully and remain visible in People/Contacts, but do not appear in the recipient picker or autocomplete suggestions across both Outlook on the web and New Outlook for Windows, the issue does not appear to be related to a specific client installation or device.

Based on the behavior you've described, this may be related to a temporary Outlook.com service-side indexing or synchronization issue affecting how contacts are surfaced in the recipient picker. The fact that the same behavior occurs across multiple Outlook interfaces further suggests that the problem may not be local to your system.

As community members, we do not have access to Outlook.com account data or backend services, so we cannot verify or repair contact indexing for individual accounts. Because of this limitation, you may wish to allow 24-48 hours to see whether the contact index refreshes automatically, as temporary service-side issues can sometimes resolve without any user action.

If the issue persists beyond that timeframe, I would recommend contacting Microsoft Support, as they have access to account-level diagnostics that are not available within the community.

Thank you for your patience, and I hope the issue is resolved soon. Best of luck!
