Azure Managed Grafana: Grafana Version does not support Umlauts in Dashboard/Panel titles

Azure Managed Grafana has prompted me to update my Azure Managed Grafana Instances to major version 12, since version 11 is only supported until june 26.

After upgrading to version 12 most of my dashboards/panels broke because of the Umlauts (ä,ö,ü,ß) that were contained in panel/dashboard titles.

I have created a an issue in the grafana repository: https://github.com/grafana/grafana/issues/122544

There I was told that the Grafana Version used by Azure Managed Grafana (12.3.1) is already no longer supported and that the issue should be fixed in the latest version.

Is there any chance to get the Grafana version for my instances updated? Or any info on when a new Grafana Version might be rolled out for Azure Managed Grafana instances?

Hello cschnelzer, we understand that you upgraded your Azure Managed Grafana workspace from Grafana 11 to Grafana 12 (12.3.1) due to the upcoming retirement of version 11. After the upgrade, multiple dashboards and panels broke because Umlaut characters (ä, ö, ü, ß) in dashboard and panel titles are no longer handled correctly. Grafana maintainers confirmed that this issue is fixed in newer Grafana versions, but the version currently used by Azure Managed Grafana is already out of upstream active support.

Azure Managed Grafana is a managed PaaS and Microsoft controls the exact minor/patch Grafana runtime, so customers can choose a major version (11 or 12) but cannot force Azure to deploy a specific 12.x patch. fixes merged upstream must wait for Microsoft validation and rollout.

Track the next Azure Managed Grafana rollout. Since there is no public date yet for moving to the fixed Grafana version, updates are rolled out incrementally once validated by Microsoft.
