Hi ,
Thank you for reaching out!
My name is Stefano and it’s my pleasure to assist you today.
That combination of 0x426-0x0, the Click-to-Run service failing with error 1053, and the setup aborting with 0-2031 almost always means that the Office installation is corrupted at the service level; the Click-to-Run component is broken and Windows can’t repair it the usual way.
A few steps that will help you to have the problem fixed:
- Check basic services
• Press Win + R, type services.msc, press Enter.
• Locate Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service.
• Startup type: Automatic.
• Try Start > if it fails with 1053, continue with reinstall steps.
- Fully remove Office remnants
Because the repair won’t run, you’ll need a forced cleanup:
- Download the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA):
- Run it, choose Office > Uninstall Office > let it remove all components. This cleans out broken services, registry keys, and leftover files.
- Restart the computer.
- Reinstall Office
• After restart, go to Microsoft Account – Services & Subscriptions.
• Download Office again from there.
• Run the installer; now Click-to-Run should install properly.
Keep me posted.
Stefano
