Hi! That’s almost always either a permissions/connection toggle on Mac, a sheet protection/format issue, or a recent Excel quirk. Try these in order:

    1. Go to Excel > Settings (or Preferences, depending on your version).
    2. Navigate to Privacy.
    3. Make sure Connected experiences and Optional connected experiences are turned ON.
    4. These settings allow Excel to access Microsoft’s online services, which are required for features like linked data types and stock/geography data.
    5. If the sheet is protected, certain features (like inserting data types) may be disabled.
    6. Go to Review > Unprotect Sheet if needed.
    7. Also, ensure the column you're trying to use isn’t formatted in a way that blocks data types (e.g., custom formats or merged cells).
    8. Sometimes toggling these settings requires a restart of Excel to take effect.
    9. Make sure you're running the latest version of Excel for Mac. Go to Help > Check for Updates.

    Hello F.S

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum Support.

I understand you are trying to automatically insert current stock prices into your Excel spreadsheet using the Stocks data type, but the feature is not functioning as expected, no price appears, even after refreshing. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

This issue has been widely reported by other Mac users, particularly following recent Excel updates.

Here are some recommended steps you can try to resolve the problem:

    1. Check for Updates
    • Open Excel.
    • Go to Help > Check for Updates.
    • Make sure AutoUpdate is enabled to get the latest fixes.
    1. Clear Excel Cache
    • Close Excel.
    • Open Finder and press Cmd + Shift + G.
    • Go to: ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Excel/Data/Library/Caches
    • Delete all files in this folder.
    • Restart Excel and try again.
    1. Verify Data Type
    • Select the cell with the stock symbol.
    • Go to Data > Stocks.
    • Make sure the cell shows the house icon and is recognized as a stock entity.
    1. Try Manual Refresh
    • Select the cell or column.
    • Go to Data > Refresh All.

Since this is a known issue, it's also a good idea to submit feedback directly on Excel

    • Go to Help > Feedback in Excel.
    • Describe the issue and mention your version (16.100) and macOS version.

    Best wishes,
