Teams for Mac freezes permanently on launch, no window, no error

Microsoft Teams (latest version) launches and remains running as a process, but freezes permanently at 0% CPU usage without ever displaying a window. No network connections are ever established by the process (confirmed via lsof). The process has to be manually terminated (kill).

Failure pattern:

  • The process loads its WebView2/OneAuth/renderer frameworks (confirmed via lsof), then freezes completely
  • No crash report is ever generated (checked ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports)
  • System Events cannot detect the process as an application with a window
  • Occurs consistently, every time, without exception

Already tried, no effect:

  • Full uninstall and reinstall of Teams (twice)
  • Deletion of all Teams-related cache, container, and support folders
  • Testing under a completely new, clean user profile on the same Mac
  • Complete removal of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint
  • Forcing native arm64 execution (arch -arm64)
  • Confirmed Gatekeeper/notarization is fine (spctl: accepted)
  • Full system restart and update to the latest macOS

System:

  • Mac model: Mac17,5 (Apple A18 Pro)
  • macOS: 26.6.1

As your issue description is primarily written in English, I will provide my response in English for your convenience. Please feel free to let me know if you would prefer the information in another language

    Hi Jesper,

Greatly appreciate your detailed description about the situation.

In this case, without any specific error message and the issue still persists after having done all of that workarounds, the best next step is to reach out to your company's administrator and ask for their help to contact Microsoft Support for further assistance.

You can ask your Global Admin to create a support ticket through:

    • Sign into Microsoft 365 admin center with an admin account > select Support > Help & Support
    • Turn off the "Support Assistant" feature.
    • Use the keyword "Support" to quickly bypass automated suggestions > Select Contact Support.
    • In the ticket description, please clearly describe the issue, including any error messages and the steps you’ve already tried. You can also attach screenshots or screen recordings.
    • Additionally, sharing your preferred contact times may help the support team handle the case more efficiently.

Just in case you do not know who is your IT admin, kindly refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

This route ensures you can reach out to a technical support engineer who can perform a remote session to investigate the situation, verify the back-end configurations, and run any necessary synchronization tools to resolve the problem. If the issue requires further attention, he/she can help escalate it to a specialized team for deeper analysis.

Apologize for redirecting you the related team support, as this is a user-to-user community, I don’t have access to the advanced system and troubleshooting tools to investigate this effectively due to privacy and security constraints. Microsoft’s support team has elevated permissions and access to back-end systems that I, as a community user, do not. This ensures your issue is handled with the right tools and expertise which will help you get a faster resolution.

Thank you for your understanding and I truly hope your issue will be resolved soon.

    Hey

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

it is a end user license. Not a company license. So I cannot go to the admin.

when I install teams on the Mac neo it just jumps. That is the issue. Perhaps it’s a support for cpu issue ?

I tried everything to reinstall and deinstall. I don’t even get to the point where I install a license.

    Jesper
