need help from a agnet to regain control over a file shared from a former employee

there is no admin account. At that time we didnt have onedrive so the enmployee created it and upload/shared this file from his onedrive account. We have a "family" account

Ah, so it was a shared file, from their account.

The file may have been un-shared by the user which is why the file is no longer available to you. The other thing they may have done is deleted the file from their OneDrive account. When a user deletes a file that was shared with others, it will remove the file and remove access for others who have had the file shared with them.

I would recommend reaching out to the former employee and ask them if they can either recover the file and send it to you through email, or re-share it on OneDrive.

If this is not possible, please can you check your email to see fi there was a copy of the file that was sent to you via email. If this isn't possible, then unfortunately if the file isn't located in the shared tab on OneDrive, then it isn't possible to recover it.

When you said he owns it, did they create it using their own Microsoft account?

If not, and they used their work account, please can you sign into your admin account here: https://admin.cloud.microsoft/?#/users

Once you have signed into your account, please click onto the user account they had. This will open the account settings. Please click onto OneDrive from the tab on the end. Then click onto "Create a link to files"

This will allow you to gain access to their OneDrive account without resetting their password.
