OneDrive storage quota incorrect after activating Microsoft 365 Family

I have an active Microsoft 365 Family subscription which is valid until June 2027.

The Microsoft Account portal correctly shows:

  • Microsoft 365 Family: Active
  • OneDrive storage: 1 TB
  • Storage used: 74.1 GB of 1 TB

However, OneDrive itself (both the web interface and the sync client) only shows:

  • 74.1 GB used of 5 GB
  • Uploads are blocked with the message: "There is not enough cloud storage. You have exceeded your storage limit and cannot upload more files."

I have already tried:

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling OneDrive
  • Clearing credentials and cache
  • Removing OneDrive registry entries
  • Signing out and back in
  • Verifying that the account is the owner of the Microsoft 365 Family subscription

The issue persists.

Please verify and repair the storage quota associated with my Microsoft account, as Microsoft Account reports 1 TB while OneDrive reports only 5 GB.

Thank you.

    Hi, Berith Burkandt

From the screenshot, the subscription side looks correct, but OneDrive is still applying the free 5 GB quota to the account. Since both OneDrive web and the sync app show 5 GB, this is probably not a PC sync issue anymore, but a Microsoft account/subscription provisioning issue.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

First, do not delete files just to get under 5 GB, because the account should have 1 TB with Microsoft 365 Family. Go to the subscription owner’s Microsoft account page, open the Microsoft 365 Family subscription, turn recurring billing off, then turn it back on again. It is suggested that this can force Microsoft 365 Family benefits to be re-applied to the account, including the 1 TB OneDrive storage.

After that, open OneDrive in a private browser window and check Manage storage again. Also make sure the OneDrive account and the Microsoft 365 subscription account are exactly the same email address, not a work/school account or another personal Microsoft account.

If it still shows 5 GB after this, contact Microsoft support under Microsoft 365 and Office > Manage my subscription and ask them to “re-provision the OneDrive storage entitlement for the Microsoft account,” because the account portal shows 1 TB but OneDrive is enforcing 5 GB.
