Per-attendee join URL or attendance correlation for /me/onlineMeetings — alternative to Teams Webinars?

We're integrating Microsoft Teams into an LMS where instructors host scheduled

classes. We need to deterministically attribute each row of the post-meeting

attendance report to a specific student in our LMS — regardless of which

Microsoft account (or anonymous email) they used at the join page.

This works perfectly on Teams Webinars via the

  externalRegistrationInformation.registrationId field on

  POST /solutions/virtualEvents/webinars/{id}/registrations — Microsoft echoes

our LMS member ID back in every attendance record.

However, the webinar UX is wrong for classroom use: the "going live" /

"Start Meeting" gate, "LIVE" badge, Q&A panel, "End event" button, and

"Waiting for others to join" gate all make it look like a broadcast, not a

classroom. We need to use the regular POST /me/onlineMeetings endpoint

  instead.

  ## What we need

A way to attach a custom identifier to a specific attendee in advance (or

correlate one after the fact), such that the identifier appears on the

corresponding row of meetingAttendanceReport.attendanceRecords — same

mechanism that Zoom registrants provide (per-attendee registrant_id +

  personalized join_url).

  ## What we've already ruled out

  - externalRegistrationInformation on /me/onlineMeetings — rejected, field

doesn't exist on the regular meeting resource

  - Custom fields in the create body — silently dropped

  - participants.attendees — Entra users only, no help for external/Gmail

    attendees

  - Custom URL query parameters on joinWebUrl — undocumented and the

attendance report doesn't echo URL parameters back

  - meetingCallEvents rosterUpdated notifications — carry Microsoft's

identity but no field for our custom data

  ## The question

Is there ANY mechanism in Microsoft Graph for /me/onlineMeetings that lets

us either pre-attach a custom identifier to an attendee, or correlate an

attendance record back to a known user we registered ourselves?

  Or is the official answer:

  > "For per-attendee tracking on Teams, you must use Webinars — regular

  >  meetings don't support this by design"

If by design: any roadmap item we can upvote that would bring

registration-style per-attendee tracking to regular meetings?

  ## Why email matching alone isn't enough

Personal Microsoft Account (MSA) attendees have their email redacted by

Microsoft in the attendance report (privacy/GDPR), and many students type

emails at the join prompt that differ from their LMS profile email.

Email-only matching drops our attendance numbers significantly.

  Thanks for any pointers.

    Hi @Hussien Elshazly

    Thank you for reaching out.

First, I’d like to clarify that this is a user‑to‑user support forum. Moderators participating here do not have access to backend systems, nor can we directly intervene in Microsoft product functionality. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance and sharing best‑practice recommendations based on reported issues, requests, and scenarios.

Currently, I have not found any related documentation or supported mechanism in Microsoft Graph for /me/onlineMeetings that would allow you to pre-attach a custom identifier to individual attendees or to reliably correlate attendance records back to users using your own identifier.

Based on my research, looks like regular Teams online meetings do not expose a registration model (such as externalRegistrationInformation.registrationId) that can be carried through and echoed back in attendance reports, unlike Teams Webinars.

Additionally, the attendance report only contains system-generated participant data, and there is no documented support for attaching or retrieving custom per-attendee identifiers. In addition, the onlineMeeting resource does not provide an extensibility point for associating custom metadata with individual attendees, and there is no documented mechanism indicating that custom data (such as query parameters on the joinWebUrl or additional fields in the request payload) would be persisted or surfaced in attendance reports.
