Hi, المحارب🎖️ابوعلي🏆
This kind of issue can happen even when Windows and Microsoft 365 appear completely healthy. In many cases, the root cause ends up being a corrupted Office cache, hardware acceleration conflicts, account sync problems tied to the Microsoft profile itself, or Click-to-Run background services failing silently without producing useful errors.
Here are some suggestions you can try:
First, test Office in Safe Mode:
Win + R > type winword /safe or excel /safe
If the freezes stop there, it is usually related to an add-in, GPU acceleration, or cached profile data rather than Office itself.
It is recommended that hardware graphics acceleration be disabled:
In Word/Excel:
File > Options > Advanced > Display > check “Disable hardware graphics acceleration”
A lot of unexplained freezing issues have been linked to GPU rendering conflicts even with fully updated drivers.
Since the problem happens across multiple devices using the same account, try creating a completely new local Windows profile or testing with another Microsoft account temporarily. This helps confirm whether the account cloud profile, roaming settings, or OneDrive sync metadata is damaged.
For advanced logging, Microsoft 365 can generate detailed diagnostic logs:
Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:
cd %programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun
officec2rclient.exe /update user displaylevel=false forceappshutdown=true
Then check:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\ClickToRun\Log
It is also recommended that Office crash dumps be enabled manually:
Open Registry Editor and create:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps
Then add:
DumpType = 2
After the next freeze/crash, Windows may generate .dmp files that can be analyzed using Microsoft WinDbg.
Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support to view the article.
Another thing worth checking is the Windows Credential Manager. Old or corrupted Microsoft/O365 tokens sometimes cause random Office hangs during background authentication or sync attempts. Removing old Office credentials and signing in again can help stabilize it.
Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.
