Request for Improved Conversation Organization Features

Hello Microsoft Copilot Team,

I appreciate the value Copilot brings to my workflow, but I find it increasingly difficult to manage a growing list of conversations. Currently, chats appear in a long chronological list without options to sort or organize them.

To improve usability, I’d like to suggest adding features such as:

Sorting conversations by date or alphabetical order

The ability to tag, label, or categorize conversations by topic or project

A folder or grouping system to keep related chats together

Enhanced search filters (e.g., by keyword + date range)

These improvements would make it far easier to locate past discussions, reduce frustration, and help users maintain continuity across projects.

Thank you for considering this request. I believe these organizational tools would significantly enhance the Copilot experience.

Regards,

Several recent and upcoming Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat improvements directly address conversation organization and discovery, and align with the requested capabilities:

    1. Unified conversation list
Copilot Chat on the web now provides a single, streamlined list of all conversations, so there is no need to switch between multiple tabs or views. Selecting a conversation returns to the same context and mode where it was left off, improving continuity across projects.
    2. Chat history filtering
Copilot Chat on the web includes chat history filtering that lets users tailor the view of past conversations to a more relevant, workflow-aligned subset. This helps quickly surface the chats that matter most and improves context recall when working across many threads.
    3. Improved filters for files and content
Within Copilot Chat, there are new file type and people refiners in the CIQ Files tab. After searching (for example, for a report name), results can be narrowed by:
      • File type (such as Excel)
      • Collaborator (people involved)
This reduces time spent manually sifting through large repositories when trying to reconnect a conversation with its underlying documents.
    4. Email-focused scoping in Copilot Chat
Copilot Chat can now focus responses on specific emails by narrowing to a folder, subfolder, or subject line. While this is email-centric, it supports the broader goal of quickly finding and reusing prior discussions and decisions tied to particular threads.
    5. Search enhancements for meetings and entities
Copilot Chat includes richer representations of entities (people, events, files) and improved search for meetings, including those with external attendees. This makes it easier to locate the right meeting or artifact when revisiting prior work.

While explicit tagging, labeling, or folder-based grouping of Copilot conversations is not described in the provided material, the combination of:

    • Unified conversation history
    • Chat history filtering
    • File and collaborator refiners
    • Email and meeting–focused scoping

already moves toward better organization and retrieval of past interactions. For additional control over search and discovery across organizational content, administrators can also configure Copilot Search and its admin experience to tailor how users find information across emails, files, chats, and meetings.
