Hi steve steve,
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum. I completely understand how frustrating this has been, especially after dealing with the same update failure for months and trying so many troubleshooting steps without success.
Since your device is running Windows 11 Pro, the repair must be performed using Windows 11 Pro installation media. Using a Windows 11 Home USB would downgrade the system and remove installed applications, so it should not be used for this process.
At this point, the recommended and safest resolution is an in‑place repair upgrade of Windows 11. This refreshes the Windows operating system and repairs the update components while keeping all installed applications, personal files, user accounts, and activation intact:
- Download the official Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft.
- Open the ISO from within Windows and run setup.exe (do not boot from USB).
- When prompted, choose Keep personal files and apps.
- Complete the installation and restart.
*Disclaimer: Let’s try performing an in-place install or in-place upgrade which will refresh your Windows files and operating system without removing files or applications. That being said, we always recommend that if you have important data, you should back it up before making large system changes. If you want to back up your data first, please do so. Once you are done backing up, you can follow the steps in the following guides: How to run In-place upgrade in Windows 11 - Microsoft Q&A
Once the repair finishes, Windows Update should function normally again. Please keep me posted on how it goes. I’m here if you need further assistance.
Thank you again for your patience and persistence in troubleshooting this issue.
