I am unable to switch from my local account to my Microsoft account in settings on my computer. On the "Your info" page in settings, I clicked on "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead" and then I entered my Microsoft account email address and password. Then I got another sign-in page that stated to enter my "Current Windows password". I don't recall that I ever had a Windows password. So, I entered my Microsoft account password instead and I got the message of "The password you entered for your device is incorrect". I was unsuccessful getting help with this issue using the Microsoft support online help. Could someone tell me how to reset my Windows password or tell me another way to switch from my local account to my Microsoft account in settings on my computer?

If you are stuck at the step where it asks for "Windows" password, this is NOT your Microsoft account password, but your local account's password.

If your local account doesn't have a password, simply leave it blank and continue the process.

To reset your Windows password, you can use the self-service password reset (SSPR) feature in Microsoft Entra ID, which allows users to change or reset their password without needing administrator assistance. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Access the SSPR Portal: Open a web browser on another device and go to the SSPR portal (you may need to contact your administrator if you don't have access).
    2. Follow the Prompts: Follow the prompts to reset your password. You will typically need to verify your identity through a method set up by your organization (like an email or phone number).
    3. Reset Password on Windows Sign-in Screen: If your IT team has enabled SSPR on the Windows sign-in screen, you can also reset your password directly from there. If you encounter issues, check with your helpdesk for assistance.

If you are unable to reset your password using SSPR, you may need to contact your organization's IT support for further assistance.

Once you have reset your Windows password, you should be able to switch from your local account to your Microsoft account by entering the new password when prompted.
