Hi Nakaranee, Disha,
This is a PowerPoint version issue. What you're seeing matches a known regression in Powerpoint Version 2510, where AVI decoding via legacy codecs was silently broken, even though you did some of the fixes.
A. If you still want to play this with no conversion to MP4 option, updated your Powerpoint to 2511. We can also test if this is really a version issue.
- Go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
B. If updating doesn't offer 2511, switch Office Update channel. This will possibly force the fix.
- Close all Office apps
- Press Win+R
- Paste:
regedit - Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration - Change channel to:
Current
or
MonthlyEnterprise - Close Registry editor
- Reopen PowerPoint.
- C. If your I.T. policy allows, manually ugrade it to 2511 via command prompt.
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Run:
cd "%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun" officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.19426.20186 - Restart.
D. As a Temporary workaround, Embed via Object. This will bypass the broken video engine in 2510.
- Insert > Object > Create from file.
- Select the AVI.
- Check Display as icon.
- Present > double-click to play.
I hope this time these solutions will fix the problem.
Regards,
Jhun
