I have removed my old device from my Microsoft Account but it still appears in settings on my new computer indicating I have 2 devices. When I click 'Remove device' I receive an error message with Trace ID POWL8A64AkGcbkhK.61.120 How can I ensure the settings on my new computer also say I now only have 1 device?

Hi William, I get why that looks confusing. What’s happening is that your Microsoft account syncs device info from multiple sources, and sometimes the old device stays cached even after removal. This usually happens if the device was linked through your account settings or used for sign-in before.

First, try signing out of your Microsoft account on the new computer, restart it, and sign back in to refresh the sync. If that doesn’t clear it, go to account.microsoft.com/devices and confirm the old device is gone there. Also, check if you’re signed in with the same account on both the Microsoft Store and Windows settings. If the error persists, it might be a sync glitch on Microsoft’s end.

Can you tell me if the old device was a Windows PC or something else, and whether you’ve recently restored a backup or used the same name for both devices? That will help narrow it down.

The device is still showing because Microsoft hasn’t updated your account yet. Remove it again from account.microsoft.com -> Devices, then wait a few hours. If it still won’t disappear, give the Trace ID to Microsoft support they can remove it manually.
