My pc boots into BIOS the first time I turn it on every day

Hello!

I've had this issue since around the 26th of October. I use my pc almost every day and on the first boot of the day my pc boots into the BIOS. I'll have to press F1 and then F10 to save and boot into Window and sign in. If I turn off my pc and turn it back on later or restart it, then it boots up normally into Windows and lets me sign in right away.

image0 Also, the XMP profile will be disabled (I had it enabled for a year before this started happening) so I have to re-enable it every time. It also says that there is no CPU fan but I have a CPU fan installed in the correct spot on the motherboard (I'm pretty sure it sure it used to register correctly in the past). I have double checked with the motherboard manual and the actual text on the motherboard where the fan is plugged in.

For reference these are my pc's specs:

**my GPU is actually 8GB, unsure why it displays incorrectly (always has)*Screenshot 2025-10-30 162742

Let me know if you need any other information. It's not the biggest issue but it is annoying to deal with and I'm concerned it might be an indicator of some kind of bigger issue.

Cheers!

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

If your PC boots into BIOS almost every day on the first boot of the day, forgets settings like XMP and fan detection, it's likely the CMOS battery on your motherboard is failing.

The CMOS battery powers the BIOS chip when the system is off. If it's dead or weak, your BIOS settings reset every time the PC is fully powered down.

Please clarify the following:

Do you unplug your computer from the wall outlet, or turn off a power strip or UPS every time you shut down your computer for the last time each day? Basically, I'm asking if you completely cut off the computer's power.

One of the easiest ways to check if the CMOS battery is dead or weak, in your case, is to look at the date and time in the BIOS before the system boots. If they've reset to a default value, it's a strong sign that the CMOS battery is dead or weak.

I await your reply.

Thanks for the clarifications.

Ever time I power off my pc for the last time that day, I pull the chord of the power strip my pc is connected to out of the wall outlet.

This explains why you only see this behavior on the first boot of the day.

While it's uncommon for the CMOS battery to fully discharge over the typical lifespan of a motherboard, certain usage habits can accelerate its depletion. For instance, frequently unplugging the computer from its power source may cause the battery to drain more quickly, though this practice isn't inherently harmful.

Most motherboards, including those from ASUS, use a standard CR2032 3V lithium-ion battery. When replacing it, be sure to unplug the computer from the power source.

Just in case, I'll leave an article from Asus explaining how to replace it.

To anyone reading this with potentially the same problem; I changed out my CMOS battery on my motherboard (as David recommended) and this fixed my issue 😄
