Internet not working for several applications and websites

So I’m not sure when this started because I don’t use the laptop having the problem very often, but the affected programs that I’ve found are:

Reddit.com

steam (app and website)

ea

discord

the Microsoft App Store

chrome update (the rest of chrome is fine it just can’t update and wants me to reinstall)

When I did try reinstalling I got an error saying something called SmartScreen can’t be reached, it didn’t affect the install I just had to manually allow it to run

This problem with my internet wasn’t affected by updating chrome

there could be others, but I’m not sure.

My laptop says it’s connected to my home wifi (which nothing else has a problem with) and shows no issues. Even so I did reset the network settings and the problem continued.

The error I get for websites is always “This site can’t be reached” with an an error code “ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE”

the laptop is an asus that is about 5 years old. It runs windows 11

I’m not sure if it’s related, but the time is wrong, but not the date. As I’m writing this it’s 4pm 10/26/25, but my lap top is showing 6:32am on 10/26/25

There could be two things happening:

You might have a proxy enabled. Go to your Windows Network Settings and check if any proxy is active. If there is, remove or disable it and try again.

Make sure there's no VPN, proxy, or security software that could be affecting your network traffic.

Also, even if other devices in your home are working fine, restarting your equipment can help refresh the laptop’s network settings.

Create a new user profile in Windows: There may be some corrupted configuration in the current profile. Test your internet access using a new user account.

Have you tried testing with another browser?

Could you disable your firewall/antivirus to test access to websites/applications?

Hello, my name is Mario, and I would be happy to assist you with your issue.

I’m sorry for what happened!

The steps I can help you with are, first, correcting the computer’s date and time, since many website certificates only work if this information is accurate.

Also, run the following commands in the Windows Command Prompt:
Type netsh int ip reset

netsh winsock reset

ipconfig /flushdns

in the Command Prompt as an Administrator.

Additionally, temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall: Check if your internet access returns to normal, so we can determine if any security rules were causing issues.

Please try these steps and let me know if they solve the problem.

Best regards,

Mario B.
