I click across text in a Word document, but it does not highlight the text. Therefore, I can't do anything to the text.

Hi Rod Lee,

Good Day. I hope everything's well. Let's proceed with some steps and let's see if it will fix your mouse issue.

First, Check your Word app if it is frozen or in "Read Mode". Go to View Tab > Click Print Layout or Draft. If it's in Read Mode you cant select the texts there normally.

Second, make sure your mouse is working properly. You can try to use a different mouse (if available), and you can test your current mouse on a different PC as well too.

Third, Try to restart your Word app. Also you an try to Reboot your PC and reopen Word. Then test it again.

Fourth, check your mouse settings. Go to Control Panel > Mouse > Buttons tab. Look for "Clickclock" check if it is checked. If checked, UNCHECK it, and hit Apply and test again.

Fifth, if the selection doesn't work on the Word alone (but works in other apps) try to repair your MS Office. Go to Setting > Apps > MS Office > Modify > Quick Repair.

I hope one of the steps above will fix the issue.

Regards,

Jhun

None of the suggestions Jhun offered worked for me. MS technical support also tried. I was on (6) different Technical support chats for over 7 Hours and the problem is not fixed after uninstalling, reinstalling, and many other trouble shooting measures. I believe this is an inherent problem with Word as not even their own experts could figure it out on line. This problem need to be elevated to the highest level of technical support and rectified. It renders Word useless when this problem exists. I am sooooo frustrated!
