I’m having an inconvenience issue with the Outlook app

I’m having an issue with the Outlook app on Android. I’m currently using the Outlook app to manage five mailboxes, all of which belong to business domains. However, the problem occurs when the Outlook app does not automatically switch to the corresponding mailbox when a new email arrives.

For example, if I’m currently viewing Mailbox 1 and receive an email in Mailbox 2, the device shows a notification, but when I tap on it, the app still displays Mailbox 1. I have to manually switch to Mailbox 2, which is quite inconvenient.

The same thing happens when I receive an email in Mailbox 3 — I have to manually switch from Mailbox 2 to Mailbox 3.

Is there any way to adjust or fix this issue?

Hi @JayJ

Thank you for posting your question in Microsoft Q&A.

We understand that you are considering reconfiguring your Android device to automatically switch to the corresponding mailbox when a new email notification arrives. I have tested this on my Android device using Outlook (version 4.2538.2), and it appears to work as expected. When I sent a new email to the second account’s mailbox, I received a notification. After selecting the notification, Outlook automatically switched to that mailbox.

The behavior you are experiencing may stem from differences in device settings, app configurations, or account-specific restrictions. Since you're managing five business domain mailboxes, it's possible that the problem is related to how your device handles multi-account notifications or synchronization.

You could try to follow these steps to troubleshoot it:

Update and verify your Outlook and Android to lastest version:

Your device may be running an outdated version of Outlook or have corrupted app data, which could lead to notification misrouting. Please ensure both your Outlook app and Android OS are updated to the latest versions available.

Recheck your notification configuration:

To ensure notifications are properly configured for all accounts:

Open the Outlook app.

Tap your profile icon -> Settings.

Go to Notifications -> Mail.

Under Mail notifications per account, select All Mail (not “Focused Inbox Only”) for each of your five accounts.

This setting ensures that notifications are triggered for all incoming emails across your accounts.

To better assist you, could you please provide additional information for the following questions:

Have you used this feature before and only recently noticed the issue, or is this the first time you've encountered it?

Could you try testing this behavior on another Android device to see if the issue persists?

Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.
