Hello,

I received the following alert in my Azure environment, convert your OS disks to Standard SSD or Premium SSD before 8 September 2028.

Does this issue apply for both OS and Data disks created for Azure VMs or just the OS disks exclusively?

Hi Eric,

The announcement only applies to OS disks that are Standard HDD. It does not apply to Data disks. You may use below command in Azure Cloud Shell (PowerShell mode) to get list of applicable disks:

Get-AzDisk | Where-Object { $_.Sku.Name -eq "Standard_LRS" -and $_.OsType -ne $null }

    Hello Eric,

    Hope you are doing well today.

    Microsoft has announced that Standard HDD cannot be used as OS disks after 8 September 2028. Here is the article - Migrate your Standard HDD OS disks by September 08, 2028.

    Steps to convert:

    Stop the VM → Disks → select the OS disk → Size + performance → change Account type to Standard SSD or Premium SSD → Save → start the VM.
