Missing Drivers After Fresh Windows 11 Installation

A fresh installation of Windows 11 was performed on a laptop that previously had Windows 11 installed. The installation was done using the same bootable USB that worked without issues before. However, during the installation, it prompted to download the Wi-Fi driver, which resulted in an error when trying to install it.

After bypassing this step using CMD, the installation continued without internet. Post-installation, the basic drivers are missing, including those for the trackpad, brightness keys, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. An attempt was made to download drivers from the HP website using another laptop. These drivers were zipped and transferred to the affected laptop via USB. The Wi-Fi driver was installed first, but there was still no option for Wi-Fi.

What steps can be taken to resolve the issue and restore all essential drivers?

Hi,

Nice to meet you! My name is Randy and I'm an independent advisor.

After reinstalling Windows 11, if drivers like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and touchpad are missing, first install the chipset drivers from HP’s website, since they allow Windows to properly detect the hardware. Next, open Device Manager, check the Hardware IDs of any unknown devices, and use those IDs to download the exact Wi-Fi/Bluetooth drivers from HP or the Microsoft Update Catalog. Finally, install the remaining drivers in order - chipset, graphics, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, audio, then touchpad and hotkey drivers - to restore full functionality.

Kind regards,
