After a failed update, my computer blue screens, requiring keyboard layout selection. Troubleshooting fails, forcing a restart. Upon restart, Bluetooth devices disconnect and need reconnection, and Windows Updates keeps showing the update as failed, and the cycle repeats.

Hi Dailet Fumero,

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Q&A regarding the difficulties you're experiencing with the Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.26200.5742 (ge_release_upr) update.

I understand how disruptive it can be to encounter repeated blue screens, failed updates, and Bluetooth disconnections. Based on your description, this issue may be related to system corruption, driver conflicts, or rollback errors that have been reported by other users on this build.

I’d like to offer a few steps that may help resolve the problem:

Step 1: Run a System File Check (SFC) and DISM Scan

System corruption can cause update failures, rollback errors, and device instability. I recommend running these built-in tools to check and repair system files:

-Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

-Run the System File Checker:

sfc /scannow

-Wait for the scan to complete. If it finds and repairs issues, restart your computer.

-If problems persist, run the DISM tool:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

This command checks the Windows image for corruption and repairs it using Windows Update

-Restart your device again to apply changes.

Step 2: Update BIOS and Drivers

Visit your device manufacturer’s support site to update your BIOS and storage drivers. Outdated BIOS or storage drivers - especially Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) - can conflict with newer Windows builds. Updating them improves compatibility and stability during the update process.

Step 3: Manually reset Windows Update components

This can help resolve corrupted update files or stuck services. --Open Command Prompt or PowerShell as Administrator.

-Run the following commands one by one to stop update services:

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver

-Rename the update folders:

Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

-Restart the services:

net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver

-Restart your computer and check for updates again.

Step 4: Install via ISO (Optional)

If the update continues to fail, consider downloading the ISO for Build 26200.5742 from the https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewiso?rfs=1 and running a manual installation.

Step 5: Report via Feedback Hub

As you're part of the Windows Insider Program, please use the Insider-specific portal at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsinsider/feedback for better visibility and faster response from Microsoft engineers.

Please let me know if you’d like assistance with any of these steps or if the issue persists after trying them. I'm here to help ensure your system runs smoothly.

Windows Updates keeps showing the update as failed, and the cycle repeats.

Try to do repair install. Go to Settings / System / Recovery and click Reinstall now. This will reinstall current build without deleting installed apps and user files.
