Hi, thanks for reaching out!

Did you try pressing Fn + Esc to switch how the keys behave?

If the keys still act strange, update your keyboard driver in Device Manager, and run Dell SupportAssist to check for any system issues. You can also enter BIOS by pressing F2 at startup, then set the function key behavior to your preference. Make sure Windows is fully updated. These steps fix most function key issues.

Warm Regards,

Arlene D.

    Hi Kennedy Teka,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

I understand how disruptive this can be when the media/function keys are not working correctly on your Dell Inspiron 15 7000. You can refer to Dell’s Keyboard Troubleshooting Guide, and maybe try out some other troubleshooting steps if that doesn't work:

    1 - Quick checks:

    • Try pressing Fn + Esc to toggle between media key mode and function key mode (in case you accidentally swapped it)
    • Ensure there is no debris under the keys — cleaning with a brush or compressed air can help.
    • Dell’s built-in tool can detect and fix hardware/software issues: Open SupportAssist from the Start menu > Run System Scan and apply any recommended updates > Restart PC.

    2 - Check BIOS Settings:

    • Restart your laptop > press F2 repeatedly to enter BIOS
    • Go to Advanced or Function Key Behavior
    • Set to Multimedia Key First or Function Key First depending on your preference
    • Save and exit BIOS

3 - Make sure your keyboard drivers are up to date.

    • Visit Support Home | Dell US > Enter your Service Tag or select Inspiron 15 7000 > Download and install:
      • Dell QuickSet
      • Chipset drivers
      • BIOS update (if available)
    • If the issue persists, you can reach out to Dell Support team for real time assistance regarding keyboards.
